Results of our Opening Weekend of 7s Games.
The Redhawks opened their 7s league play this last Saturday and got off to a great start—going undefeated throughout our groups—7 total wins, no losses and one tie. The day started with our High School Boys Elite team playing back to back games against Southern Pines and then Corinth Holders. The Redhawks beat Southern Pines 28-10 and beat Corinth 22-0. Next up was our High School Club team in back to back games also against Southern Pines and Corinth Holders and the Redhawks again won both games, beating Southern Pines 31-5 and Corinth 17-7. The it was the U-15 boys team and the girls turn to play their games and with the pressure on after their Redhawks’ teammates set the stage. The U15 responded to the challenge, beating Raleigh 30-5 and then beating Clayton 27-5. The girls, who are combining with the Chapel Hill girls for this 7s league, played two back and forth nail biters—in the first game, they defeated a strong Raleigh girls team 12-10 and then in the second game they tied Clayton 14-14—having one of their tries called back for a forward pass and having a game winning try at the end go begging when the Redhawk ball carrier was talked 10 meters from the line with two of her support players unmarked waiting for the pass and easy try. The coaches and players all had a great time and it was such a joy for everyone to be able to play rugby again after losing almost an entire season. We are pleased with our start—but we know the competition will get much stronger and we must improve. Continual improvement is one of our mantras and we will get back to work again this weekend. But—great job thus far to everyone! We are excited to announce that Kyle Hodges has chosen to pursue studies at Belmont Abbey College. We are excited for Kyle and his future opportunities. Kyle is the first rugby scholarship for the 2021 graduating senior class.
